Hi, I’m Sherri Stockman, creator of GreenHQ.net.
You could say I’ve been a tree-hugger since I was big enough to get my arms around one and shinny up.
My first experience with the “green movement” was as a pre-teen, when I started reading my Grandmother’s Organic Gardening and Farming magazines (I had already exhausted the supply of Saturday Evening Post and Reader’s Digest).
Then in Junior High, I embroidered an ecology symbol on my jeans (pre-bell-bottom), and because of the self-induced publicity, learned that some people just didn’t get it.
After my first high school job exposed me to pesticides and other nasties, I experienced some minor health issues. At that point, I became pretty much hooked on Green.
Organic Gardening led to Mother Earth News, and soon I was sketching solar- and wind-powered underground house plans.
Life throws you situations sometimes that will lead you in an entirely unplanned direction:
My rabble-rousing, pot-stirring attitudes and behaviors led me to open a health food store, even though – or maybe because – our government is ever-tightening its grip on our Health Freedoms.
As far as I’m concerned, having the option to use natural healing methods instead of pharmaceuticals and medical “procedures,” deals with the same freedoms as being able to put PV units on my roof. I’d rather use clean solar power to generate the electricity I enjoy using, than to buy power made by dirty coal plants.
Organics increase our health, and the health of our Planet.
Less pollution makes it easier on our bodies, and our “Mother’s.”
So even though my alternative energy-powered home hasn’t materialized yet (it’s coming in the near future; keep your fingers crossed for me), in my own small way, I’m still going forward toward my ultimate goals.
I’d love you to join me…
