Waste Management for Shopping Centers

The US Environmental Protection Agency has teamed up with the International Council of Shopping Centers to create a guide for best practices in waste management for shopping centers.

Here's what they came up with:

Get management support, identify incentives/disincentives, determine legal requirements;

Name a recycling co-ordinator;

Form a Green Team;

Evaluate center's waste stream;

Identify materials to be collected;

Choose a recycling service provider;

Decide on collection program logistics;

Implement the waste management/recycling program;

Reap the public relations benefits;

Monitor, evaluate, and refine the program.
